Some thoughts
By andrew | July 25, 2011
I think perhaps I will un-link my twitter account from posting here. It seems excessive especially when I rarely post anything else. Perhaps that will change as well. For now, the twitter posts should start disappearing.

I have much to write about
By andrew | June 24, 2009
It’s true, I do. There is plenty that I’d like to get out, but I’m lacking in motivation.
I will blame me, myself and work. I get home exhausted and drained for no apparent reason, and spend the rest of the evening milling about the WAN and watching TV. What a waste. Especially taking into account my perception that I don’t have any time to do anything.
I’ve got a ton of ideas, of which I forget a bunch cause I don’t write them down, but refuse to start anything new because of the effort involved to get the basics in place. I refuse to open anything old due to the effort to get up to speed. I took the time to install Windows 7 RC because I knew it could go mostly unattended and would eat up an hour or so (it was closer to “or so”).
I’ve been commanding electrons for circa 17 years, but only professionally for 10ish-ish. I tell myself that I don’t necessarily know what I’m doing, and that seems to work well at diminishing my motivation. This needs to be reversed. I’ve had a lot of success in my life of using mental/verbal self-reinforcement to change myself and my self-perception. I was a super shy guy in years past and I’ve made good progress on interacting with actual humans in meat-space. Unfortunately, I consider programming ability a quantifiable attribute (Is that wrong?), and I’ve naught to show myself that makes me reverse my thinking.
Aside from programming type things, I have many thoughts that I’d like to write out here that relate to life/love/politics. Where are they? Still in my head, sorry folks. Another casualty to motivation.
What does one do to motivate oneself? (dig the high school philosophy class grammar?)
ROAR!
That is all.

Product Review: Corsair Flash Voyager 8GB
By andrew | November 11, 2008
I know, I know… I don’t usually do product reviews.
To be honest, this isn’t a REAL review… more of a related story.
Last night I undertook the mission of assaulting the mound of laundry that had gathered over the past month. I hunted through the whole apartment for something that looked like it was mine and consisted of cloth and threw it into the pile. Gathered up my clothing caravan and headed to the laundry room.
2 Hours and $9 in quarters later, I was in hardcore folding mode. I have a very regimented folding style, all shirts get folded the same exact way, all socks get mated in precisely the same manner and all pant pockets MUST be pushed down so that there is no bluge. Pants get special treatment, after the pocket pushing they’re wipped repeatedly in the air to remove wrinkles.
I come across a pair of jeans that have been sitting on the couch for a certain length of time and were now fresh and clean. During the pocket pushing my hand hits something in the pocket. Instantly doom and gloom comes over me. I know that soft rubbery skin… squishy firmness. The texture speaks to me. It was my less-than-one-month old thumb drive. I was sure that all 8 beautiful jiggawatts of data had been destroyed, along with my investment in electron arrangement technology.
I plugged the Corsair Flash Voyager drive into my desktop. Less than a second of anticipation (it felt like atleast a second!) later, I heard that gorgeous sound that was ambrosia to my ears. BOOP BEEP! My USB port knew the loving embrace of this firm rubbery creature. They spoke one anothers language and a short dialog later my PC opted to let me in on this conversation. I was presented with a window of my data. Still intact. I opened a file or two just to make sure whats what.
VICTORY!
It had survived 30 minutes submerged in soapy water and dirty clothes, high speed spinning and a tumbling dryer at excessive temperature for an hour. All with data intact. Beautiful.
I’d also mention that the data transfer on this drive is much faster than my previous thumb drive, although I can’t remember what type of drive that was or who made it.
So in closing. I’d like to thank the academy and Corsair for making a bad ass thumb drive that survived my idiocy.
