Our second installment of AOTD brings us back to the States.

New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo

Mr. Cuomo joins the ranks due to his “sickening abuse of power[1]

Andrew Cuomo is threatening to sue Comcast for not signing on to his plan to “purge its system of child pornography” by banning a set of sites.  It’s ludicrous to believe that banning a set of sites will eliminate child pornography.

All this will really do is give unauthorized power to the ISP’s to filter content that they find “objectionable” (which is a very subjective term).
    As Techdirt elaborates:

“Of course, what’s odd is that nowhere does Cuomo explain how Comcast’s actions violate the law. He just threatens to sue over it — and even makes a veiled threat that the lawsuit alone will be damaging to Comcast, because Cuomo will position it as Comcast protecting child porn… The reason Cuomo doesn’t explain what the legal rationale for any lawsuit, is because there isn’t one. Comcast as a connectivity provider is not responsible for what content goes across its network. Cuomo (one would hope) knows this — and is bullying Comcast into signing his “Code of Conduct” by threatening to paint the company as protecting child porn.”

This abuse of power earns Mr. Cuomo the title “Asshat Of The Day”. My only regret is that I have nothing more to offer him.
